Trek Highlights:
– Ramshej means base/bed of Lord Ram. This place was His residence or shelter for some time and that is why it got its name as Ramshej.
– History has it, that the Fort was attacked by Aurangzeb’s army, and his commanders threatened the Maratha kingdom saying that they would capture it in hours but Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj resisted these attacks for 5.5 years. The Fort thus remained with the Marathas for a period that was longer than the fighting lives of some of the commanders of Aurangzeb’s army who made the claim that the Fort would be taken down in hours.
– There’s a Lord Ram Mandir inside a huge cave in the Fort. There are inscriptions on the cave walls and cisterns nearby in which potable water is available.
– You get an astounding view of the nearby Bhorgad and Chambar Leni (Caves) from the top of the Fort.
