Trek Grade: Easy
Trek Duration: 3.30 hours (2:00 hours ascent, 1:30 hours descent)
Base Village: Kavnai (Igatpuri Taluka, Nashik District)
Height: 2,500 feet above mean sea level (MSL)

Fort History:
Kavnai Fort, which is said to have been built by the Moghals, was ceded to the Peshwa by the Nizam in virtue of a treaty concluded after the battle of Udgir (1760). When the Marathas were defeated at Trimbak in 1818, Kavnai, like Tringalwadi and fifteen other neighbouring forts, fell without a struggle to the British.

Trek Highlights:
– Things to see: Main entrance door that still stands good, a cave, a pond, a ruined structure of a mansion and a temple of Kamakshi Devi beside the pond, a bastion at the western end, a water cistern near the bastion
– Magnificent view of Mukane Reservoir, Upper Vaitarna Reservoir, Tringalwadi Fort & Dam, Darna River and the nearby Kavnaicha or Vaakichaa Budhlaa (Daskon Hill)
– Visit to the nearby Kapildhara Tirth & its holy pool (Origin of the Nasik Kumbh Mela)

Trek Rules:
1. Do Not Litter: Carry a disposable bag in which you can put your trash and dispose the bag off in a dustbin after the trek
2. No Smoking and Alcohol: Smoking cigarettes, chewing tobacco or related products and consuming alcohol is strictly prohibited on the trek
3. Stay in a Group: Don’t stray, stick together
4. No Plastic: Avoid buying plastic water bottles; get water bottles filled from home instead
5. No scribbling on monuments
6. No risky poses
7. No harm to or teasing of animals
8. No swimming in drinking water
9. Do not wear perfumes or make loud noise, else you will attract bees
10. Always wear full safety gear – ankle high trekking shoes, full sleeve t-shirt, full track pant, shades, cap, towel, torch, whistle

Trek Itinerary:
6:55 am: Catch CSMT – Kasara FAST local train from CSMT (please:
– buy a return ticket to Kasara
– board the 1st II class compartment from the back of the train i.e. from the CSMT side
– reach at least 10 minutes before the train departure time)
7:02 am: Train reaches Byculla
7:08 am: Train reaches Dadar (Central Platform No. 4)
7:15 am: Train reaches Kurla
7:19 am: Train reaches Ghatkopar
7:30 am: Train reaches Mulund
7:34 am: Train reaches Thane
7:42 am: Train reaches Diva Junction
7:47 am: Train reaches Dombivli
7:55 am: Train reaches Kalyan (have packed breakfast in train)
9:11 am: Train reaches Kasara, travel to base village Kavnai (35 kms) in a local Jeep
10:30 am: Reach Kavnai village
10:45 am: Start the ascent with a local guide
12:45 pm: Reach on top of the fort & explore
1:30 pm: Start the descent
3:00 pm: Reach Kavnai village & have lunch (Veg) at the local contact’s house
4:00 pm: Start return journey in the Jeep to Kasara railway station
5:00 pm: Reach Kasara railway station
5:17 pm: Catch the Kasara – CSMT FAST Local Train
6:29 pm: Train reaches Kalyan
6:36 pm: Train reaches Dombivli
6:41 pm: Train reaches Diva Junction
6:50 pm: Train reaches Thane
6:54 pm: Train reaches Mulund
7:05 pm: Train reaches Ghatkopar
7:09 pm: Train reaches Kurla
7:17 pm: Train reaches Dadar
7:23 pm: Train reaches Byculla
7:32 pm: Train reaches CSMT

Important things to carry:
– Copy of Identity Card
– Peanuts/Chana/Chikki for more stamina
– First Aid Kit (basic – dettol, nebasulf, cotton swabs, bandaids, small scissors, crocin, antibiotic for stomach ache, personal medications if any) – Note: the trek lead does carry a medical kit along
– 3 Bottles of water – this is a must, the more the better
– Electral (in a rare case of dehydration)
– Torch (to explore any dark areas like caves, etc.)
– Backpacks, preferably with rain cover (no sling bags or jholas)
– Ankle length Trekking Shoes (avoid shoes with plastic soles, you can keep spare floaters to wear after the Trek)
– T-shirt (preferably having full sleeves to protect against insect bites, sun burns, etc.)
– Track pants (preferably – again to protect against insect bites, sun burns, AVOID shorts, 3/4ths and denim pants)
– Cap or a bandana for covering your head
– Extra pair of clothes, socks & towel (packed in plastic bags for changing at the end of the trek)
– Plastic pouch to cover your mobile phone
– Swiss Knife (optional – may come handy)
– Paper tissues
– Avoid carrying gold or other valuable items (even expensive cameras)

2. Any other thing not mentioned in Inclusions

1. The Event will be cancelled if it doesn’t get at least 8 participants
2. If an Event is cancelled due to inadequate participation or unavoidable circumstances (like transport failure, riots, etc.) or acts of God (like Natural calamities, etc.), the registrants can opt to either (i) transfer the refund amount to any other future Event of ours or (ii) get us to transfer it to their Bank accounts
